Controversy Over “Privatization” of Fishing Harbours

A massive political showdown has erupted at the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Nellore district.

Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the site on Wednesday to lead a protest.

He accused the current TDP-led government of betraying local fishermen by handing over land to private firms.

The YSRCP chief claims that nearly 29 acres of the harbour area are being diverted to a private defence company.

Jagan Mohan Reddy argued that this project was built for the livelihood of over 25,000 fishing families.

He questioned why the harbour, virtually completed under his regime, is not yet operational for the public.

“This harbour belongs to the fishermen, not to corporate entities,” Jagan stated during his interaction.

He warned the government that he would relocate any private firms once the YSRCP returns to power.

In response, the ruling coalition ministers have dismissed these allegations as “politically motivated misinformation.”

Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy clarified that the government is aiming to modernize the maritime sector.

He stated that the goal is to create an autonomous maritime shipyard to boost the regional economy.

The government maintains that no fishermen will be displaced and that new jobs are being created.

Local fishing communities remain on edge as the “Blue Economy” debate continues to dominate the state.

The TDP leaders alleged that Jagan is trying to incite unrest rather than discussing actual development.

They pointed out that the previous government failed to formally dedicate the harbour during its five-year tenure.

Meanwhile, the heavy presence of police at Juvvaladinne highlights the rising tensions in the coastal belt.

Political analysts see this as a strategic move by the opposition to regain ground in Nellore.

With the 2026 political calendar heating up, maritime projects have become a central battleground.

The YSRCP has promised a statewide agitation if the “privatization” moves are not immediately reversed.

For now, the gates of Juvvaladinne remain at the heart of a fierce struggle between two political visions.
