Telangana Politics Heat Up Over Kaleshwaram Probe

The political atmosphere in Telangana reached a boiling point today as Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a direct attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Speaking to the media after a local event, the Minister accused the state government of intentionally weakening the investigation into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. He claimed that the current administration is making a deliberate attempt to protect influential figures from the previous government.
The Union Minister highlighted a significant discrepancy in the figures being discussed. He reminded the public that during the election campaign, the Congress party had alleged a scam worth over ₹1 lakh crore. However, he pointed out that recent official communications to central agencies only mention a fraction of that amount, specifically focusing on limited structural repairs and smaller financial irregularities.
According to the Minister, by limiting the scope of the inquiry to only three specific barrages, the state government is effectively closing the door on a full-scale investigation. He argued that this selective approach ensures that the “big fish” involved in the overall project planning and fund allocation remain untouched. He challenged the Chief Minister to seek a comprehensive probe into the entire project cost if he truly wanted justice for the people.
The BJP leader further alleged a “hidden understanding” between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS. He termed the two parties as “twin curses” for the state, suggesting that their public disagreements are merely a theatrical performance to distract the citizens. He stated that the people of Telangana are watching closely as the promised accountability for past corruption seems to be fading into political compromises.
In response, leaders from the ruling party dismissed these claims as politically motivated. They maintained that the government is following due process and that the investigation is being handled by technical experts to ensure a solid legal case. As both sides continue to trade charges, the Kaleshwaram issue remains at the center of the state’s political discourse, with no signs of cooling down soon.
