Strict Action Follows Shocking Guntur Incident

A massive political storm has erupted in Andhra Pradesh following a shocking case of public assault against a woman in Guntur. The incident took place in Krishna Babu Colony, falling under the jurisdiction of the Nagarampalem police station, and quickly escalated into a high-profile political confrontation between the ruling alliance and the opposition.
The friction began over a local dispute regarding the drilling of a borewell after previous infrastructure extension works affected municipal supplies. According to law enforcement authorities, Telugu Desam Party ward secretary Mallela Venkata Ramana Murthy and several others allegedly confronted a local family, resulting in physical violence against a woman on a public road.
As soon as CCTV footage of the brutal assault surfaced online, it went viral across social media platforms, sparking immense public outrage and immediate political reactions. In response to the growing backlash, the ruling Telugu Desam Party moved swiftly to suspend the accused ward secretary from the party, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward such behavior.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu termed the public humiliation of the woman deeply disturbing and stated that no individual would receive political shielding. Simultaneously, the Guntur district police initiated department-level disciplinary action against local Circle Inspector Y. Satyanarayana for apparent lapses and delays in addressing the initial complaint.
The YSR Congress Party launched a sharp counterattack, accusing the ruling administration of failing to maintain law and order and initially attempting to protect the primary accused. While the opposition continues to question the safety environment, the police confirmed that all nine named individuals in the FIR, including Murthy, have been formally arrested and produced before the court.
