New Population Policy Launched in Andhra Pradesh

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has officially shifted its stance from family planning to population care. During his recent public address, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiled structural measures under the “Pillale Sampada” framework. The policy aims to address the state’s dropping Total Fertility Rate, which has fallen to 1.5, significantly below the national average.

The state administration expressed concern that an aging demographic could lead to an imminent human resource deficit. To reverse this trend, the government announced immediate financial rewards for expanding families. Parents will receive an incentive of 30,000 rupees upon the birth of their third child. For the birth of a fourth child, the financial assistance will increase to 40,000 rupees.

Additionally, the state plans to strengthen its socio-economic support systems for larger families. The framework includes benefits such as additional housing spaces, extra essential resources under welfare modules, and access to healthcare infrastructure. Free fertility treatments will also be extended through designated state centers to assist couples facing medical challenges.

The government intends to implement this framework actively across administrative channels, utilizing local village secretariats to monitor demographic trends. Dedicated community review meets will be conducted on specified days to create grassroots action plans. Educational support initiatives like “Talliki Vandanam” will continue to support students without any restrictions on family size.
