Telangana Push to Finalize Rohith Vemula Bill

The Telangana government has accelerated its efforts to draft the historic Rohith Vemula Telangana Bill, 2026. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka led a high-level Cabinet Sub-Committee review at the State Secretariat to fast-track the legal frame.
The main goal of this upcoming law is to completely eliminate identity-based discrimination in universities and colleges. The administration wants to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning atmosphere for students from all social backgrounds.
The initiative stems from a promise to address discrimination following the tragic loss of research scholar Rohith Vemula in 2016. Top leaders have strongly advocated for a statutory shield to protect students on higher education campuses.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister ordered departments to form a dedicated panel of experts. This body will quickly compile a comprehensive preliminary report detailing the procedural codes and legal clauses of the law.
To ensure absolute quality, Telangana is closely studying similar anti-discrimination models from neighboring Karnataka. Officials aim to adopt the most effective administrative practices and grievance frameworks from across state lines.
The drafting phase will follow a transparent, democratic path with extensive statewide public feedback. The state has invited active suggestions from political groups, student bodies, and prominent social organizations
