Nara Lokesh Drives Global Investment in Singapore

Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT, Electronics, and Education, Nara Lokesh, initiated a high-level official mission to Singapore today. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and fast-track massive infrastructure projects back home. Lokesh is leading a strategic delegation to engage with global investors and government officials to reshape the state’s economic landscape.
A key highlight of the visit was the Joint Implementation Steering Committee (JISC) meeting. During the session, Lokesh proposed a revolutionary integrated township in Amaravati, modeled after Singapore’s famous Punggol district. He emphasized that this project would serve as a national benchmark for sustainable urban living in India. To ensure rapid progress, he sought support for World Bank funding to accelerate the development of the Amaravati Economic Region.
The Minister also explored transforming Andhra Pradesh into a premier global hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). By studying Singapore’s Suntec City model, the state plans to build world-class convention infrastructure in Visakhapatnam and Amaravati. Lokesh noted that increasing hotel capacity to 20,000 rooms over the next five years is a top priority to support this vision.
On the trade front, Lokesh met with the CEO of the Commodities Intelligence Centre (CIC). He discussed launching a “digital trade corridor” between Singapore and major Andhra ports like Visakhapatnam and Krishnapatnam. This blockchain-backed initiative is designed to streamline exports of seafood, agriculture, and minerals, providing MSMEs with direct access to Asian commodity markets.
Concluding his day, Lokesh interacted with the Telugu diaspora, urging them to act as brand ambassadors for the state. He highlighted the “festival of investments” currently unfolding in Andhra Pradesh, citing interests from global giants like Royal Enfield. The Minister’s mission underscores a proactive approach to port-led industrialization and real-time governance through international partnerships.
