Thalapathy Vijay Takes Oath as Tamil Nadu CM

The political landscape of Tamil Nadu witnessed a tectonic shift today as C. Joseph Vijay, the founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), officially took the oath as the Chief Minister. The grand ceremony, held at Chennai’s Nehru Stadium, marks the end of a six-decade-long era dominated by the DMK and AIADMK.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the actor-turned-politician in front of a massive crowd of supporters. The TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections, securing 108 seats. Vijay has formed a coalition government with the support of several allies, ensuring a stable majority in the 234-member house.

In his first address after assuming the top post, Chief Minister Vijay promised a “transparent and welfare-oriented” administration. He emphasized that his government would focus on women’s safety, job creation, and a clean break from traditional partisan politics. The new leader thanked the people for their historic mandate and pledged to repay their trust through grassroots service.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several prominent leaders from across the country extended their congratulations to the new Chief Minister. Notable figures like Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan also shared their best wishes, highlighting the expectations for regional progress under the new leadership.

With the swearing-in complete, the Governor has directed the new government to prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly by May 13. As the state enters this new political chapter, all eyes are now on the immediate policy decisions and the promised reforms of the Vijay-led cabinet.
