Political War Over Andhra Land Resurvey

A major political storm has broken out in Andhra Pradesh as former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the current government of “stealing credit” for the state’s massive land resurvey project. During a press meet in Tadepalli, Jagan alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is trying to take ownership of a program that was originally planned and started by the previous YSRCP government.
Jagan stated that the idea for a complete land resurvey was born during his 3,600-km walkathon when thousands of farmers shared their struggles with land disputes. He reminded the public that his government spent nearly ₹6,000 crore and hired over 40,000 staff to carry out this historic task using modern technology. He claimed that the current administration is simply changing the colors of the passbooks to claim success.
Responding sharply to these claims, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and state ministers clarified the government’s stance. They argued that the previous regime failed to follow central guidelines, which led to the withholding of funds. The current government claims it is now fixing over 2.73 lakh grievances left behind by the YSRCP administration to ensure real justice for landowners.
The ruling NDA alliance also criticized the use of Jagan’s photos on survey stones and passbooks in the past, calling it “political narcissism.” They emphasized that the focus is now on the “Speed of Doing Business” and resolving actual land disputes on the ground rather than just printing photos. This “credit war” highlights the deep political divide as both parties aim to win the trust of the farming community.
