PM Modi’s Central Asia Diplomacy and Strategic Agreements

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent diplomatic outreach to Central Asia has reshaped India’s regional strategy. His visit to Uzbekistan marked a turning point, elevating bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

India and Uzbekistan set a bold target of $5 billion in trade by 2030. Long-term uranium supply agreements were signed, strengthening India’s energy security. The rollout of UPI in Uzbekistan added a digital dimension to the partnership, showcasing India’s fintech leadership.

At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, Modi emphasized India’s role in regional security and connectivity. His presence reinforced India’s ambition to balance economic growth with geopolitical influence.

Back home, the agreements sparked debate. Supporters hailed the deals as a step toward energy independence and global recognition. Critics questioned whether trade targets were realistic given current economic challenges.

Modi’s diplomacy in Central Asia reflects India’s dual focus: securing resources abroad while projecting itself as a digital and strategic power. The agreements underline India’s intent to anchor itself firmly in Eurasian geopolitics.
