Omar Abdullah Demands Full J&K Statehood at Rally

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has launched a strong campaign demanding the immediate return of full statehood to the region. Speaking at a massive public gathering, the Chief Minister declared that the patience of the people is being tested. He urged the central government to fulfill its long-standing promise without any further delay.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters, Abdullah criticized the ongoing political status of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory. He pointed out that an elected government cannot function effectively when major administrative powers remain with the Lieutenant Governor. The National Conference leader emphasized that holding elections has no meaning if the local assembly is kept powerless.

The Chief Minister directly questioned the central government’s frequent statements that statehood would be restored at an “appropriate time.” Abdullah demanded a clear timeline, asking what exactly defines the right time. He stated that the democratic rights of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir are a constitutional necessity, not a political favor.

To take the movement forward, the National Conference has announced a major protest in New Delhi on July 20. The demonstration will coincide with the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament at Jantar Mantar. Abdullah has invited all political parties from Jammu and Kashmir to join this protest to present a united front in the national capital.

Concluding his address, Abdullah made it clear that his party will continue to use all constitutional and democratic means to achieve their goal. He asserted that the struggle for identity and self-governance will grow stronger until full statehood is officially restored to the region.
