Kavitha’s Resignation Shakes Telangana Politics

The political landscape of Telangana has been shaken to its core as K. Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), officially resigned from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). This move comes just 24 hours after the party leadership suspended her for alleged anti-party activities. Kavitha also tendered her resignation as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), marking a definitive break from the party her father founded nearly 25 years ago.

The fallout was triggered by Kavitha’s public accusations against senior party leaders, specifically her cousins T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Kumar. She alleged that they were responsible for the administrative lapses and financial controversies surrounding the Kaleshwaram project. In a deeply emotional press conference in Hyderabad, she claimed she was being “hanged without a trial” and suggested that certain figures were creating a wedge between her and her father to protect their own interests.

This high-profile exit represents the most significant internal rift in the BRS since its inception. While party loyalists have stood by KCR and Harish Rao, Kavitha’s departure has sparked a wave of uncertainty among the grassroots cadre. Opposition parties, including the ruling Congress, have been quick to comment, suggesting that the internal turmoil is a sign of a deeper collapse within the regional powerhouse following its recent electoral defeats.

Looking ahead, Kavitha has clarified that she will not be joining any other existing political party.Instead, she plans to focus on her socio-cultural organization, Telangana Jagruthi. She has already announced a state-wide mass-contact program titled “Janam Bata” to reconnect with the public. There is strong speculation that she may eventually transform this cultural platform into a new political entity, aiming to contest the next general elections as an independent force.
