Indian Batters Rule Updated ODI Rankings

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest One Day International (ODI) player rankings, showing a significant surge in the standings for several Indian cricketers, particularly among the top batsmen. The updated chart confirms India’s dominance in the 50-over format, setting the stage for a compelling internal battle for the prestigious number one position.

Captain Rohit Sharma has successfully maintained his hold on the World’s No. 1 ODI Batter ranking, keeping his top spot through a combination of consistent high scores. Rohit accumulated 146 runs in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa, allowing him to hold onto the leading position with 781 rating points.

However, the major talking point is the dramatic rise of veteran batsman Virat Kohli. Following a sensational performance in the same series, where he amassed 302 runs, Kohli has climbed two crucial places to capture the No. 2 spot in the world. Kohli, who was also named the Player of the Series, now sits just eight rating points behind Rohit, intensifying the race for the top. His unbeaten innings of 65 in the series finale, which secured the series victory for India, was instrumental in this significant surge. Kohli has been steadily closing in on the top position, which he last held in early 2021.

The Top 10 ODI batting chart now showcases strong representation from India. While Shubman Gill remains steady at the fifth position, despite missing the recent series, the rankings reflect the depth and quality of India’s batting lineup.

The rankings also saw positive movement for other Indian players across different categories. Wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul, who led the team in parts of the South Africa series, rose two places, climbing to the 12th position overall in the batting chart.

In the ODI bowling rankings, left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav made an impressive jump, rising three spots to claim the third position globally. His nine wickets across the three ODIs against South Africa were key to his advancement, demonstrating India’s strong presence in the bowling attack as well. The competition remains fierce at the top, particularly in the batting chart, ensuring that the upcoming home series against New Zealand will be highly anticipated, with all eyes on whether Kohli can finally reclaim the No. 1 ranking from his teammate.
