BRS Leader Harish Rao Slams Congress Over Power Cuts and “Coal Shortage”

Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao has launched a sharp attack on the ruling Congress government. He claims that poor planning and mismanagement have pushed Telangana into a severe power crisis. According to Rao, the state’s major thermal power stations are running dangerously low on coal. Reserves at key plants like Kothagudem, Kakatiya, Bhadradri, and Yadadri are down to just six or seven days of supply.

The leader stated that unannounced power outages are now a daily trouble for people across Telangana. Farmers, students, traders, and families are facing major disruptions due to unstable electricity. Angry farmers have already held protests outside electricity substations in 11 districts. Power generation at Units 1 and 4 of the Yadadri plant has completely stopped due to the lack of coal.

Rao highlighted a massive gap between the state’s power capacity and its actual output. While Telangana has an installed thermal capacity of 7,180 MW, it is currently generating only 3,190 MW. This means nearly 56% of the state’s thermal power capacity is sitting idle. To meet the high daily demand, the government is reportedly buying expensive power from the energy exchange.

The BRS has demanded the immediate restoration of 24-hour free power for the farming sector. Harish Rao warned that his party will step up its protests across the state if the government does not fix these issues quickly. He urged the administration to arrange immediate coal shipments and improve plant maintenance to prevent further blackouts.
