Telangana Rising, Vision 2047 Unveiled on Republic Day

On the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, Telangana witnessed a blend of grand patriotic displays and sharp political maneuvering. The highlight of the day was Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s unveiling of the “Telangana Rising 2047” vision document at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds. This roadmap aims to position Telangana as a primary engine of India’s growth by its centenary year, focusing on three new economic zones: Core Urban (Hyderabad), Peri-Urban (Manufacturing), and Rural Agriculture.

In his address, Governor Varma highlighted the government’s efforts to streamline governance by merging 27 municipalities into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). He also emphasized the “Telangana Rising” document as a commitment to inclusive development. However, the day was not without friction. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy used the platform to reaffirm the Congress government’s focus on the caste survey and farmer welfare, claiming these initiatives have made the state a national model for social justice.

The opposition, led by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), launched a creative counter-protest. At Telangana Bhavan, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) oversaw a satirical street play performed by university students. The performance depicted “Mother Constitution” in chains, symbolizing what the BRS calls the “authoritarian rule” of the current administration. KTR accused the Congress of constitutional violations, specifically pointing to the luring of defectors and the alleged harassment of journalists and opposition leaders.

Meanwhile, at the Gandhi Bhavan headquarters, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud unfurled the national flag and took a swipe at the previous BRS regime, accusing it of “economic destruction.” He announced that a high-level delegation would soon visit Delhi to discuss further organizational strengthening and upcoming agitation programs. In the Old City, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi continued his tradition of hoisting the Tricolour at Madina Circle, emphasizing the need to protect the secular fabric of the nation.

The day also saw local-level political heat. In Secunderabad, Congress MLA Sri Ganesh continued his relay hunger strike demanding the immediate merger of the Cantonment Board with the GHMC. Simultaneously, BRS leader T. Harish Rao called on voters to “teach Congress a lesson” in the upcoming municipal polls, signaling that the festive spirit of Republic Day has not cooled the state’s intense political competition.
