TDP Pushes for Legal Status of Amaravati Capital

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has officially moved to secure the future of Andhra Pradesh by demanding statutory backing for Amaravati. During an all-party meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday, TDP Parliamentary Party leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu emphasized the need for a specific Bill. This legislative framework aims to provide permanent legal sanctity to Amaravati as the state capital, ensuring its status remains protected regardless of future political changes.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has already signaled that this “Amaravati Bill” is a top priority for the ongoing Budget session of Parliament. The move is designed to end years of administrative uncertainty and provide a solid guarantee for international investors and state institutions. By securing a Gazette notification through Parliament, the state government hopes to lock in the capital’s development path and prevent any arbitrary shifts in the future.
Beyond the capital issue, the TDP is also aggressively pursuing central funds for key projects. The party has urged the Union Government to include Andhra Pradesh in the “Purvodaya” development scheme, which currently benefits states like Odisha and West Bengal. They are also seeking the release of ₹26,000 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission, asserting that previous delays have hindered essential water infrastructure across the state.
The legislative push also includes concerns for the state’s agrarian economy. Devarayalu raised the plight of tobacco farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, calling for clarity on the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill to resolve trading halts. As the Budget session progresses, the TDP remains focused on ensuring that Andhra Pradesh receives adequate allocations for the Polavaram project and the industrial development of backward regions.
