Sri Viveka Satyanarayana Swami Temple Kothalanka’s Sacred Jewel

Kothalanka, a serene village in Mummidivaram mandal of East Godavari district, is home to one of Andhra Pradesh’s most revered spiritual landmarks—the Sri Viveka Satyanarayana Swami Temple. Celebrated as the second most visited shrine in the state after Annavaram, this temple blends divine grace, cultural richness, and architectural beauty.

The temple was consecrated on Maha Shivaratri in 1951, marking the day when the idol of Lord Satyadeva was positioned on Ratnagiri hill. This sacred hill is named after Ratnakara, son of Meru—the legendary king of holy mountains. The temple’s origins are deeply rooted in the Revakhanda of Skanda Puranam, where the glory of Lord Satyadeva is vividly described.

Lord Satyadeva resides here with his consort Sri Anantha Lakshmi on one side and Lord Shiva on the other, forming a divine triad that symbolizes prosperity, protection, and cosmic balance. Devotees believe that prayers offered here bring peace, fulfillment, and spiritual elevation.

Following the installation of the idol, a small shrine was built to accommodate the growing number of worshippers. In 1971, the temple was expanded with the construction of an upper level, and a second idol was positioned to continue the legacy of devotion.

Every year, the temple comes alive during Vysya Sudha Ekadasi, a five-day celebration that mirrors the grandeur of Annavaram’s rituals. Devotees gather to perform the sacred Satyanarayana Swamy Vratam, participate in cultural programs, and witness traditional music and dance performances. The temple also serves as a venue for marriages, adding to its cultural and spiritual significance.

Built in the Dravidian architectural style, the temple features intricate carvings and a tranquil ambiance that invites reflection and reverence. Its location in Kothalanka makes it easily accessible by road, with nearby towns offering transport and accommodation for pilgrims.
