Rain Batters Hyderabad as Yellow Alert Stretches On

Heavy rains continue to lash Hyderabad, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to extend the yellow alert across Telangana. The city is grappling with waterlogged streets, traffic snarls, and rising safety concerns as gusty winds and thundershowers persist.

Localities such as Khairatabad and MS Maqta are among the worst affected, with floodwaters disrupting daily life. Residents are navigating submerged roads, while emergency teams work round-the-clock to restore order.

The IMD has forecast continued rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph over the next 48 hours. Misty mornings and hazy nights are expected to follow, adding to the challenges faced by commuters and emergency responders.

Hyderabad Traffic Police have deployed personnel across key junctions to regulate traffic and assist stranded commuters. Their coordination with GHMC and HYDRAA teams has helped clear waterlogged stretches and respond to emergency calls swiftly.

Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams remain active in flood-prone zones, especially in areas like Habeeb Nagar, where two individuals were swept away earlier this week. Search operations are still underway.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to expedite relief efforts and seek financial assistance from the Union Government to strengthen rehabilitation measures.

The yellow alert now covers multiple districts including Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal. Similar conditions are expected to persist through September 22.

Citizens are advised to stay indoors during peak rainfall hours, avoid low-lying areas, and follow updates from official channels. Emergency helplines remain active, and authorities urge cooperation to ensure public safety.

Despite the disruption, community resilience shines through. Volunteers are assisting with food distribution, shelter arrangements, and medical aid in affected neighborhoods.

Meteorologists suggest that the current weather pattern may be linked to intensified monsoon activity across southern India. While the rains offer relief from heat, they also underscore the need for robust urban planning and drainage infrastructure.

Schools and offices in several zones have shifted to remote operations, and transport services are running on modified schedules. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

As Hyderabad endures another day under the yellow alert, the spirit of its people remains unshaken. From frontline workers to everyday citizens, the collective effort to weather the storm is a testament to the city’s strength.
