PM Marks Sikkim’s 50th Year with Massive Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gangtok today to lead the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Marking 50 years of the state’s union with India, the Prime Minister highlighted the region’s incredible journey from a Himalayan kingdom to a leader in organic farming. He expressed that Sikkim’s progress is a shining example of how traditional values and modern development can grow together.

During the event at Paljor Stadium, the Prime Minister launched several development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore. These initiatives cover key sectors like healthcare, education, and connectivity. A major highlight was the foundation stone for a 100-bedded Ayurveda Hospital in Namchi and the inauguration of the permanent campus of Sikkim University. These projects aim to turn the state into a premier hub for learning and wellness in the Northeast.

Connectivity was a major theme of the visit. The Prime Minister inaugurated several road-widening projects designed to make travel smoother for tourists and locals alike. He emphasized that better roads and digital links are essential for the “Ashtalakshmi” states to reach their full economic potential. He also praised the state for its environmental leadership, noting that Sikkim continues to inspire the rest of the country with its green initiatives.

The Prime Minister also took time to interact with local artisans and youth, encouraging them to use technology to scale their businesses. He noted that the “Future of Sikkim” lies in its ability to blend its natural beauty with sustainable industries. The government’s focus remains on ensuring that the benefits of national growth reach the farthest corners of the mountainous state, making it a key player in India’s progress.
