KCR Resumes Lead,BRS Launches 2026 Revival Plan

The political atmosphere in Telangana is electric as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) makes its most significant move since the 2023 elections. Following months of strategic silence, party supremo K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has signaled a definitive return to the political forefront.

The year 2026 began with a clear message from the BRS camp: the “honeymoon period” for the Congress government is officially over. Marking his first major public stance of the year, KCR has shifted his base to his Hyderabad residence, signaling a move away from the semi-retirement of his farmhouse to active legislative participation. This transition aims to bolster the morale of party cadres who have faced a challenging two-year period since the change in power.

During the ongoing winter session of the Telangana Assembly, the former Chief Minister’s presence has already shifted the legislative dynamic. The opposition is now mounting an aggressive defense regarding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and Krishna River water rights. Party insiders suggest that KCR’s strategy for 2026 involves a state-wide tour to reconnect with the rural vote bank, focusing on issues like fertilizer shortages and pending crop loan waivers.

Meanwhile, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has explicitly stated that the party’s primary goal is to see KCR return as the Chief Minister in 2028. To achieve this, the party is preparing for a year of intense grassroots agitations. They plan to challenge the ruling Congress on its “Six Guarantees,” particularly the delays in monthly financial aid for women and the full implementation of senior citizen pension hikes.

As the state enters this new political phase, the rivalry between KCR and CM Revanth Reddy has moved from verbal spats to a direct legislative showdown. With the municipal and GHMC elections on the horizon later this year, KCR’s return to active duty sets the stage for a high-stakes political battle. The BRS hopes that by highlighting administrative gaps and championing regional interests, they can regain the dominant position they held for a decade.
