India Secure Amid Global Fuel Tensions
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri addressed the nation today to provide a firm assurance regarding the country’s energy security. Speaking during a high-level parliamentary session, the Minister dismissed rumors of an impending fuel shortage. He emphasized that despite the volatile geopolitical situation in West Asia, India has maintained a robust supply chain. His statement comes at a time when global oil markets are experiencing significant fluctuations due to ongoing international conflicts.
The Minister highlighted that the government has strategically diversified its crude oil sources over the last few years. This shift has reduced India’s over-reliance on traditional shipping routes that are currently facing security threats. By sourcing fuel from a wider variety of global partners, the administration ensures that local petrol pumps and gas agencies remain fully stocked. This proactive approach is intended to prevent any domestic panic or artificial price hikes.
Regarding the supply of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), the Minister noted that domestic distribution remains unaffected. He urged the public not to engage in “panic booking” or hoarding, as such actions create unnecessary pressure on the local supply chain. The government is closely monitoring the situation daily and has established contingency plans to handle any sudden changes in the global market. Authorities are confident that the current reserves are sufficient for the long term.
Opposition leaders had previously raised concerns about the impact of the Iran-Israel conflict on Indian energy prices. In response, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified that India is now utilizing more non-Hormuz shipping routes. This ensures that even if certain regions become inaccessible, the flow of energy to Indian ports continues without interruption. The focus remains on maintaining price stability for the common man while protecting national economic interests.
