India and Netherlands Elevate Ties to Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced his high-profile official visit to the Netherlands, marking a significant milestone in European diplomacy. Upon his arrival in The Hague, the Prime Minister received a warm welcome from the local Indian diaspora. The bilateral visit began with a prestigious royal audience, where King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima hosted the Indian leader at the Royal Palace.
Following the royal reception, Prime Minister Modi held extensive delegation-level talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. Recognizing growing geopolitical convergences, the two leaders officially decided to elevate their bilateral relations to a full-fledged Strategic Partnership. They adopted a comprehensive five-year roadmap to guide deeper joint operations between the two nations from 2026 through 2030.
A primary focus of the diplomatic discussions centered on boosting economic cooperation and securing global supply chains. Both nations concluded fourteen major agreements and memorandums of understanding covering critical technology, green hydrogen, and maritime logistics. The leaders emphasized massive collaborative plans to build trusted semiconductor ecosystems, advanced artificial intelligence modules, and innovative cyber-security frameworks.
The visit also yielded a major cultural victory for New Delhi as the Netherlands handed back eleventh-century Chola dynasty copper plates to India. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to the Dutch government for facilitating the return of these historic artifacts. Additionally, the Prime Minister invited top Dutch corporate leaders to expand their manufacturing units in India, highlighting recent domestic tax and governance reforms.
