From Blood Sugar to Cosmic Energy: Dr. Hari Krishna on Inner Transformation

In the human body, insulin serves as the vigilant regulator of blood sugar. Whenever glucose levels rise beyond immediate energy needs, insulin directs the surplus into storage whether in the liver, beneath the skin, or within blood vessels. This mechanism reflects the body’s dual metabolic states: anabolism, the phase of digestion and storage, and catabolism, the phase of energy release. These states never overlap; one dominates while the other rests. When food intake is frequent, the body remains locked in anabolism, continuously storing energy as fat. Fasting, however, unlocks catabolism, allowing stored reserves to be burned.

Energy storage efficiency varies across macronutrients. Carbohydrates yield four calories per gram, proteins seven, and fats nine. Because fat is the most energy-dense, the body naturally prefers to store excess energy in adipose tissue. Continuous snacking suppresses catabolism, while fasting particularly beyond eight hours activates fat-burning pathways every two hours. The hunger pangs felt early in fasting are pseudo-hunger, alarms rather than true depletion. Even a small bite of carbohydrate instantly triggers insulin release, halting fat burning and returning the body to storage mode. Intermittent fasting, such as a 16-hour gap between dinner and breakfast, resets these metabolic rhythms without requiring starvation, allowing fat loss to depend more on timing than on portion size.

Yet metabolism is only half the story. Ancient wisdom teaches that the ego, often misunderstood as negative, is an essential identity tool for physical creation. Great sages like Dakshinamurthy and Ramana Maharshi transcended ego through silence, experiencing complete unity with existence. Spiritual realization unfolds in three stages: Jnana, the realization of one’s divine identity (“Aham Brahmasmi”); Vijnana, the recognition of divinity in all beings (“Tat Tvam Asi”); and Pragyanam, the supreme unified consciousness where all distinctions dissolve into cosmic oneness. In this state, the universe itself is perceived as a single body, galaxies and stars included.

Sacred geometry mirrors this cosmic energy flow. The upward triangle (Trikona) and central point (Bindu) symbolize energy centers like the Muladhara. Creation expands through binary doubling one becomes two, two becomes four, and so on while numbers 3, 6, and 9 form a non-physical vortex of continuous energy. Within the body, subtle pathways intersect at Granthis, or energy knots, where complementary flows rotate around each other, generating zero-point energy at the Bindu. Kundalini, the eternal internal generator, functions like the sun, rising naturally when purity, silence, and surrender are established.

Authentic awakening cannot be forced through mudras or breath retention. Instead, meditation arises spontaneously, guided by Sharanagati complete surrender to cosmic intelligence. Deep meditation produces natural phenomena such as spontaneous breath stoppage (Kevala Kumbhaka), involuntary movements, or altered breathing patterns. These are not negative attacks but energetic clearing processes. Chasing visions or external signs distracts seekers from true realization, which lies in observing without attachment. As lower chakra energies ascend, they transform into compassion, bliss, and ecstasy, refining raw vitality into spiritual qualities.

Ultimately, enlightenment is not a distant goal but a present reality. Intellectual accumulation without humility builds spiritual ego, while genuine knowledge dissolves it, restoring childlike innocence. Masters like Shirdi Sai Baba embodied simplicity, reflecting seekers like a mirror. Achieving the Pashupati state signifies transcending animal instincts and reconnecting directly with the cosmic source. Cosmic cycles full moons, eclipses amplify energy fields, offering potent opportunities for meditation. In both metabolism and spirituality, the principle remains the same: surrendering interference allows natural intelligence to guide transformation, whether burning stored fat or awakening Kundalini.
