Ex-Minister Seediri Appalaraju Arrested in AP

The arrest of former Andhra Pradesh Minister and YSRCP leader Dr. Seediri Appalaraju has caused major political heat across the state. Police took him into custody from his house in Kasibugga, located in Srikakulam district.
The legal action follows a fatal road accident involving his son, Arav Varma, on the Old National Highway in Kasibugga. A 45-year-old local resident lost his life in the collision involving a two-wheeler.
Police officers stated that the initial investigation faced delay because another individual was falsely presented as the vehicle driver. However, CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station cleared the confusion and identified the driver.
Following the discovery, law enforcement officers arrested the former minister’s son and included Dr. Seediri Appalaraju in the official First Information Report as Accused Number Three.
Investigators alleged that the former minister tried to protect his son by providing false information and attempting to influence the case. Police also noted that the vehicle was operated without a valid driving license.
The arrest process witnessed intense drama as a large gathering of party supporters assembled near the residence. High tension prevailed in the neighborhood while security forces moved in to manage the crowd.
Supporters attempted to block the police vehicle and raised slogans against the action. Additional police personnel were deployed to clear the pathway and safely transfer the leader to the local police station.
Responding to the development, YSRCP leadership strongly condemned the police action against the senior leader. Party leaders claimed that the government is targeting opposition figures out of political motive.
Opposition members questioned the legal sections applied in the case and argued that an accident is being turned into a severe criminal matter. They stated that full legal support would be provided to the family.
On the other hand, police officials maintained that the action was strictly based on evidence collected during the probe. They stated that no one is above the law when evidence indicates interference in an ongoing investigation.
Local authorities confirmed that Dr. Seediri Appalaraju will undergo standard medical procedures before being produced before the magistrate court. Security arrangements have been tightened across key areas in Srikakulam district.
Political observers note that this development has further heightened tensions between the ruling government and the primary opposition party. Both sides continue to trade strong statements regarding the incident.
Party workers have called for peaceful demonstrations across various parts of the district to express their protest. Senior officers warned against any attempts to disturb public order or obstruct official duties.
The case continues to attract widespread attention in regional news as legal proceedings begin in court. Citizens and political analysts are closely monitoring the upcoming hearing in the magistrate court.
Further updates are expected once official court statements and formal legal submissions are filed by the defense team. The police department confirmed that detailed reports will be presented before the court.
