Amaravati Flyover Opens with Bathukamma Spirit

Amaravati witnessed a landmark moment this weekend as the newly constructed flyover near Benz Circle was officially opened to the public, coinciding with the vibrant launch of Bathukamma festivities across Andhra Pradesh. The dual celebration brought together infrastructure pride and cultural heritage in a rare blend of progress and tradition.

The flyover, designed to ease traffic congestion between Vijayawada and Guntur, was inaugurated by state officials in the presence of local leaders, engineers, and thousands of residents. With its sleek design and multi-lane capacity, the structure is expected to reduce travel time by nearly 40% during peak hours.

As the ribbon was cut, the air filled with cheers and rhythmic Bathukamma songs. Women dressed in traditional sarees carried floral arrangements, forming colorful circles near the flyover base. The state’s decision to align the inauguration with Bathukamma was seen as a nod to regional pride and cultural continuity.

The flyover spans 2.8 kilometers and includes LED lighting, rainwater drainage systems, and pedestrian-friendly zones. It was completed ahead of schedule despite monsoon interruptions, thanks to a revised work calendar and night shifts by the construction crew.

Local vendors, anticipating increased footfall, have already set up stalls selling snacks, toys, and Bathukamma flowers. Traffic police have deployed additional personnel to manage the initial surge and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

Residents from Mangalagiri, Tadepalli, and Gollapudi expressed relief at the new connectivity, especially for daily commuters and school buses. Auto drivers and cab operators hailed the flyover as a game-changer for fuel savings and faster rides.

The Bathukamma launch added emotional depth to the event. Cultural troupes performed folk dances, and school children sang devotional songs. The government distributed eco-friendly Bathukamma kits to promote sustainable celebrations.

Officials confirmed that the flyover will be monitored for structural health using sensor-based technology. A control room has been set up to track traffic patterns and respond to emergencies.

The inauguration also featured a drone show depicting Andhra Pradesh’s development milestones, drawing applause from attendees. Social media buzzed with images of the flyover lit up in Bathukamma hues—yellow, pink, and white.

This project is part of the Amaravati Urban Mobility Plan, which includes six more flyovers and two metro corridors by 2027. The state aims to position Amaravati as a model capital with seamless transport and cultural integration.

The flyover’s opening marks a turning point for the region, blending modern engineering with age-old traditions. As Bathukamma blooms across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati’s skyline now carries a new symbol of aspiration.
