Telangana Industry Shift Sparks Assembly Clash

The Telangana Assembly witnessed heated debates today, as the state government defended its new Hyderabad Industrial Transfer (HILT) Policy. Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao stated that moving polluting industries outside the Outer Ring Road (ORR) is essential to transform Hyderabad into a world-class, liveable city. While the government emphasized that the shift remains voluntary and includes incentives for landowners, opposition leaders from the BRS and AIMIM raised concerns over environmental reviews and the potential siphoning of land.
In a separate political development, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has officially launched a statewide offensive against the ruling Congress. Party president K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has signaled a fresh series of agitations focusing on farmers’ rights and the completion of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. The BRS is capitalizing on momentum from recent panchayat polls to corner the government on what they call “unfulfilled promises” regarding agriculture and irrigation.
The state’s water rights also took center stage as Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other leaders slammed recent comments from Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu. The friction intensified after Naidu admitted to past political maneuvers regarding the merger of Telangana mandals. Meanwhile, the Telangana Mineral Development Corporation announced advance bulk sand bookings for the 2026 rainy season to prevent shortages, and the School Education Department officially extended Sankranti holidays until January 16, 2026, to accommodate the festive rush.
