Telangana HighCourt Probes HPS Fund Misuse

The Telangana High Court has ordered a formal investigation into alleged financial irregularities within the Hyderabad Public School (HPS) Society. The directive was issued while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Durgam Ravinder, who raised concerns about mismanagement and violations of institutional byelaws.
A division bench led by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin instructed the Principal Secretary of the Education Department to conduct a thorough probe. The court has given a three-month deadline to complete the inquiry and submit findings.
The PIL highlights multiple concerns including misappropriation of funds, non-compliance with reservation policies for SC/ST/BC communities, and irregularities in fee regulation and recruitment practices at both Begumpet and Ramanthapur branches.
Originally a government institution, HPS was later handed over to a governing body for smoother administration. The petitioner claims that the society has deviated from its founding principles and failed to uphold transparency.

While the Education Department has acknowledged receipt of the court’s directive, formal action is expected to begin shortly. Officials are likely to form a special committee to oversee the investigation.

The case may set a precedent for governance reforms in private and semi-private educational institutions across Telangana and India. Legal experts suggest that stricter compliance frameworks may follow. This development underscores the need for transparency and accountability in educational institutions. As Telangana’s flagship school faces scrutiny, the spotlight turns to governance, ethics, and the role of public oversight.
