Telangana Government Proposes New Law Against Hate Speech

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that the Telangana government will introduce a new legislation to strictly curb hate speech across the state. The proposed law aims to penalize individuals or groups that incite religious hatred or provoke communal disturbances. The Chief Minister made this announcement during the state-organized Christmas celebrations at LB Stadium in Hyderabad, emphasizing that the state treats all faiths equally and will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt social harmony.

In a sharp political escalation, BRS President and former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) launched a direct attack on the current administration during a press conference at Telangana Bhavan. KCR accused the Congress government of being “thoroughly corrupt” and claimed that the state governance has turned into a “real estate broker racket.” He alleged that the government is prioritizing land commissions over public welfare and announced a series of public meetings in Nalgonda, Rangareddy, and Mahabubnagar to intensify political agitation against the ruling party.

Meanwhile, a significant administrative shift is underway as the state government has ordered all government offices currently operating from private buildings to shift to government-owned premises by December 31.This move is intended to reduce the burden on the state exchequer. Additionally, the political landscape remains tense following the Assembly Speaker’s recent dismissal of disqualification petitions against several MLAs who shifted from BRS to Congress, a decision that BRS leaders have vowed to challenge in the High Court.

On the rural front, Minister Seethakka has called for state-wide protests on December 27 and 28 against the Central Government’s move to replace the MGNREGA scheme. The Congress party alleges that this change will harm rural laborers and is an attempt to erase the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Amidst these political battles, 11 districts in the state remain under a cold wave alert, with temperatures in some regions dropping as low as low as 5 degree celsies
