Telangana Bandh Called by BC Leader R. Krishnaiah Over Reservation Issue

A statewide bandh has been called in Telangana on October 14 by BC leader and Member of Parliament R. Krishnaiah. The protest targets the recent High Court stay on 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections, igniting a wave of political and social reactions.
The Telangana High Court issued a stay on G.O. 9, which enabled enhanced BC representation in local polls. This move has been criticized by BC associations and caste-based organizations as a setback to social justice.R Krishnaiah, representing the National Backward Classes Welfare Association, declared the bandh as a peaceful protest. He urged all political parties to support the cause and restore the reservation rights of BC communities.
Krishnaiah met Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to seek BJP’s backing. The Minister assured a response after internal discussions. Meanwhile, Congress faces criticism for its handling of the issue.
Krishnaiah argued that the High Court’s stay contradicts Supreme Court precedents and violates the spirit of inclusive governance. He also highlighted the imbalance in judicial representation for BC, SC, and ST communities.
Over 22 BC organizations have joined the bandh call. Posters, social media campaigns, and local meetings are mobilizing citizens across districts like Warangal, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad.
Schools, transport services, and government offices may be affected. Authorities are preparing for minimal disruption, while protestors insist on non-violence and discipline.
Several student unions, women’s groups, and legal activists have expressed solidarity. They emphasize that reservation is not just a policy but a lifeline for marginalized communities.
While some parties have pledged support, others remain cautious. Analysts believe the bandh could influence upcoming local elections and reshape caste-based alliances.
News channels and digital platforms are tracking the bandh closely. Hashtags like #BCRights and #TelanganaBandh are trending, reflecting widespread engagement.
Beyond the bandh, Krishnaiah is pushing for judicial reforms, caste census transparency, and enhanced representation in policymaking bodies.
The October 14 bandh is more than a protest—it’s a statement of identity, equity, and political assertion. Telangana’s response will shape the future of reservation politics in the region.
