SIT Summons KCR,Former CM Dragged into Phone Tapping Probe

In a major escalation of the ongoing phone-tapping investigation, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has officially summoned Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). SIT officials visited KCR’s residence at Nandi Nagar on Thursday to serve the notice, marking the first time the former CM has been formally called for questioning in this high-profile case.
The probe centers on allegations that the previous BRS administration illegally monitored over 100,000 phone calls of political rivals, judges, and journalists to influence the 2023 elections. While the SIT has requested his presence on January 30 at 3:00 PM, they noted that due to his age, KCR can choose a convenient location for the session rather than appearing at the police station. This follows the recent intensive questioning of his son, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), and nephew, T. Harish Rao.
The BRS has reacted sharply, with Harish Rao labeling the move as “political vendetta” and a “scripted drama” designed to divert public attention from the Congress government’s alleged failures. He claimed the timing is linked to the upcoming municipal elections, where the ruling party is seeking an advantage. Meanwhile, the Congress maintains that the investigation is a necessary step to expose a deep-rooted conspiracy against democratic processes.
In other legislative developments, the Telangana Assembly Speaker has scheduled a crucial hearing for January 30 regarding the disqualification of MLA Danam Nagender, who allegedly shifted loyalties to the Congress. Additionally, the Central Government’s Economic Survey 2026 recently praised Telangana’s Bhu Bharati land portal and BRS-era projects like Kaleshwaram, creating a rare moment of complex political optics for both the ruling and opposition parties.
