PM Modi Leads Grand Roadshow in Puducherry
Prime Minister Narendra Modi transformed the streets of Puducherry into a sea of saffron and white during a massive roadshow on April 3, 2026. Arriving just days before the Union Territory heads to the polls on April 9, the Prime Minister sought a decisive mandate for the NDA alliance. The event served as a high-octane boost for the AINRC-BJP coalition, aiming to retain its administrative hold over the coastal enclave.
The roadshow covered a prominent stretch of over one kilometer, starting from the Ajanta Signal and concluding at the Raja Theatre junction. Accompanied by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Home Minister A. Namassivayam, the Prime Minister traveled in a specially designed open vehicle. Thousands of supporters and local residents lined the barricades, showering the convoy with flower petals and chanting slogans in a display of significant public enthusiasm.
During the event, the Prime Minister emphasized a vision for a “Viksit Puducherry,” focusing on infrastructure and economic growth. He greeted the massive crowds with folded hands, acknowledging the diverse groups of people, including a large number of women and youth, who had gathered since the afternoon. Security was tightened across the town, with a multi-layered blanket ensuring the smooth conduct of the 40-minute procession.
Political observers note that this visit is strategically timed to consolidate the NDA’s lead in high-stakes constituencies. By sharing the stage with local heavyweight N. Rangasamy, the Prime Minister reinforced the unity of the alliance against the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by the Congress and DMK. The roadshow effectively shifted the election campaign into its final, most intense gear.
As the campaign enters its last few days, the impact of this roadshow is expected to resonate across the 30 assembly seats. The NDA leadership believes that the Prime Minister’s direct engagement with the voters will translate into a higher turnout and a clear majority. With the voting date fast approaching, Puducherry remains the focal point of intense national political attention.=
