PM Modi Launches Infrastructure Blitz in Bengal and Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a massive infrastructure drive across West Bengal and Assam today. The visit aims to boost connectivity and industrial strength in the eastern part of India.Starting in West Bengal’s Nadia district, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for National Highway projects worth ₹3,200 crore. A major highlight is the four-laning of the Barajaguli to Krishnanagar section on NH-34, which is expected to cut travel time between Kolkata and Siliguri by nearly two hours.
The Prime Minister then traveled to Guwahati, Assam, to open the state-of-the-art New Terminal Building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport.This facility is being called India’s first “nature-themed” airport.It features a unique “Sky Forest” with over one lakh indigenous plants and a design inspired by the region’s bamboo orchids. The terminal is built to handle up to 1.3 crore passengers every year, making it a key hub for travel in the Northeast.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also performed the foundation ceremony for a massive ₹10,600 crore fertilizer project in Namrup.This new plant will help farmers by producing 12 lakh metric tons of urea annually, reducing India’s dependence on imports. The Prime Minister emphasized that these projects are not just about roads and buildings, but about creating thousands of new jobs and improving the daily lives of citizens in both states.
