PM Modi Ignites Bengal Growth with ₹18,680 Cr Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kolkata , to launch a massive development drive for West Bengal. He inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple projects worth over ₹18,680 crore. These initiatives focus on boosting road, rail, and port connectivity across the state and Eastern India.

A major highlight was the foundation of the 231-km Kharagpur-Moregram Economic Corridor. This four-lane highway will connect several districts, including Hooghly and Murshidabad. Once finished, it will cut travel time by nearly eight hours and shorten the distance by 120 km. This is expected to lower logistics costs and help local businesses grow faster.

The Prime Minister also boosted the railway sector by dedicating two key projects to the nation. He unveiled six redeveloped stations under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, including Haldia and Tamluk. Additionally, a new express train from Purulia to New Delhi was flagged off. These upgrades aim to make travel safer and more comfortable for thousands of daily passengers.

Waterways and ports received significant attention during the visit. PM Modi inaugurated the mechanization of berths at the Haldia Dock Complex to speed up cargo handling. He also launched a rejuvenation project at the Khidderpore Docks. These steps are designed to turn West Bengal into a major trade hub for the entire region.

Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister stated that these projects mark a new chapter for the state. He emphasized that modern infrastructure is the key to creating jobs for the youth. By improving connectivity, the government aims to transform West Bengal into a “Viksit Bengal” and strengthen the economy of Eastern India.
