Pawan Kalyan Returns SEZ Lands to Farmers

In a landmark move fulfilling a long-standing promise, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has announced the return of 2,180 acres of land acquired under the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to 1,551 original farmers across Thondangi and Uppada Kothapalli mandals.
The decision comes as a major relief to farmers who had been waiting for justice for years. Pawan Kalyan, who had pledged during his election campaign to resolve the SEZ land issue, ensured that the lands would be re-registered in the names of the original owners.
To ease the process, the Andhra Pradesh government has waived stamp duty and registration charges. This move not only reduces financial burden but also accelerates the re-registration process for affected families.
Local farmer associations have welcomed the announcement, calling it a “historic correction.” Many expressed gratitude to the Deputy CM for personally intervening and pushing for swift administrative action.
The Revenue Department has issued formal directives to district officials to begin the re-registration process immediately. Officials confirmed that the lands will be returned without any legal encumbrances.
The decision is expected to positively impact agricultural revival in coastal East Godavari. With land ownership restored, farmers can resume cultivation and access government schemes.
This move strengthens Pawan Kalyan’s image as a leader committed to rural welfare. Analysts note that it sets a precedent for resolving land acquisition disputes across Andhra Pradesh.
The government has also initiated steps to digitally document the re-registration process, ensuring transparency and long-term record safety for future generations.
This development highlights the importance of leadership accountability and community-driven governance. It also reflects the growing demand for ethical land policies in India’s economic zones.
