Under this updated legal framework, the national song receives new status.The song Vande Mataram now shares equal legal footing with the anthem.Lawmakers designed the measure to prevent any intentional public disrespect.Committing deliberate insults against the national song becomes a punishable criminal offense.Individuals who intentionally disrupt gatherings during its rendition face strict penalties.Legal punishments under the statute include imprisonment of up to three years.Courts may also impose financial fines or combine both penalties for offenders.Repeat offenders face a mandatory minimum jail term of one full year.
The historical composition was originally penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.It later found a permanent home inside his famous novel Anandamath. The timing of this legislative move coincides with major milestone commemorations.Government officials noted the timing aligns with the song’s grand anniversary. Proponents argue the step corrects historical gaps in national symbol protection. Leaders from the ruling alliance defended the measure strongly during floor debates.
