New 28-District Map for Andhra Pradesh State

The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, has officially approved a significant administrative overhaul. This move increases the total number of districts in the state from 26 to 28. The new administrative structure is set to come into legal effect from December 31, 2025. This decision aims to bring governance closer to the people and correct previous administrative gaps.

Two brand new districts, Polavaram and Markapuram, have been carved out to address long-standing local demands.Polavaram district will operate with Rampachodavaram as its headquarters, focusing on the tribal belt and project-affected regions. Meanwhile, Markapuram district is formed to better serve the upland areas of the Prakasam region. The cabinet also approved the creation of five new revenue divisions to streamline public service delivery.

The reorganization involved adjustments in 17 out of the existing 26 districts, based on feedback from over a month of public consultations.Key changes include moving the Addanki constituency to Prakasam district and integrating Railway Koduru into Tirupati district. While most changes were welcomed, the shifting of the Annamayya district headquarters from Rayachoti to Madanapalle saw emotional debates within the cabinet before being finalized for better viability.

Beyond the map changes, the government is linking this reorganization to a broader development push.Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad highlighted that 2025 has been a breakthrough year with massive investment targets.By creating smaller, more manageable districts, the administration expects more efficient implementation of welfare schemes like the “Super Six” initiatives. New zonal offices and revenue divisions will begin full operations starting January 1, 2026.
