Maoist Leaders Surrender in Hyderabad

In a major development, three senior leaders of the banned CPI (Maoist) party surrendered before the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy in Hyderabad. This marks a significant shift in the insurgent strategy, aligning with the Centre’s peace deadline
The leaders who laid down arms are:
- Kokati Venkati alias Vikas
- Mughalicharla Vikas alias CNM Chandu
- Ganga Gangavaiya alias Suni
All three were active members of the Telangana State Committee and operated across various districts for several years.
The surrender follows the Union Government’s announcement of a peace deadline ending in March 2026. Recent internal letters from Maoist factions indicate a growing willingness to renounce armed struggle and engage in dialogue.
Senior Maoist leader Mallojula Venugopal Rao, also known as Sonu, resigned from the party earlier this month. In his letter, he called the decades-long armed movement a mistake and urged cadres to join mainstream society.
Maoist spokesperson Abhay proposed a temporary suspension of violence to initiate talks. Their conditions include:
- Release of political prisoners
- Safe passage for cadres
- Participation of jailed leaders in negotiations
Telangana Police have intensified efforts to encourage surrenders. The DGP assured fair treatment and rehabilitation support for those who choose to leave the insurgency.
The surrender has sparked discussions on the future of left-wing extremism in the region. Many view it as a positive step toward peace and development.
With over 400 Maoists surrendering in recent months, Telangana’s anti-insurgency operations are seeing measurable success. The state aims to reintegrate former cadres through vocational training and community support.
The Centre’s deadline and Telangana’s proactive approach may lead to more surrenders in the coming months. The focus now shifts to ensuring transparency, rehabilitation, and long-term peace.
