Keep Religion and Politics Separate,Mayawati

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati has issued a stern warning against the growing trend of mixing religion with politics. Speaking on the occasion of Uttar Pradesh Day, she expressed deep concern over how political interference in spiritual matters is creating social unrest. Her statement follows recent controversies in Prayagraj, where a prominent spiritual leader was allegedly restricted during a holy dip at the Magh Mela.
Mayawati noted that over the past few years, there has been a significant rise in political figures participating in and influencing religious rituals, festivals, and bathing ceremonies. She cautioned that using faith for narrow political gains is a dangerous path. According to the BSP leader, such actions lead to unnecessary disputes and tensions among the public, shifting focus away from genuine governance and people-centric issues.
Highlighting the importance of constitutional values, she stated that the law clearly envisions a separation between state affairs and religious practices. Mayawati urged leaders to discharge their duties with honesty and impartiality rather than using religious sentiments to divide the masses. She emphasized that prioritizing public welfare and social harmony is the true national duty of any elected representative.
The BSP supremo also called for a quick resolution to the ongoing dispute in Prayagraj through mutual consensus. She argued that a lack of respect between administration and spiritual leaders only harms the state’s image. In her message to the people, she reiterated that peace and brotherhood are essential for the overall development of Uttar Pradesh and the country as a whole.
