Kavitha Breaks Silence on BRS Rift, Alleges Cousins Framed KCR

.

In a dramatic turn of events within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), party MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has made explosive allegations against her own cousins—T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Kumar—accusing them of corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), addressed the media in Hyderabad after returning from a trip abroad. Her statements have sent shockwaves through the party and the political landscape of Telangana.

She claimed that Harish Rao, the former irrigation minister, and Santosh Kumar, a former MP, played central roles in the alleged irregularities surrounding the multi-crore Kaleshwaram project. According to Kavitha, the duo amassed significant assets while misleading KCR, who she says was kept in the dark and is now being unfairly targeted.

“My father is being made a scapegoat. He never chased money. The real culprits are being shielded,” Kavitha said, visibly emotional during the press conference.

She further alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is protecting Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar, suggesting a deeper political nexus. Kavitha’s remarks come at a time when the Kaleshwaram project is under scrutiny, with a CBI inquiry reportedly underway.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, once hailed as a transformative initiative for Telangana’s water needs, has faced criticism over cost escalations and structural failures. Kavitha’s accusations add a new layer of controversy, especially as they target senior leaders within her own party.

She also revealed that Harish Rao was removed from the irrigation portfolio during BRS’s second term due to his alleged involvement in the project’s mismanagement. “It wasn’t a routine reshuffle. It was a consequence,” she stated.

Kavitha expressed deep anguish over the damage to her father’s reputation. “KCR is not just a political leader. He is the architect of Telangana. To see him dragged into this mess is heartbreaking,” she said.

She warned that political backlash and social media attacks would follow her statements, but insisted she was prepared. “Let them say I’ve switched sides. I know my truth. My blood is KCR’s blood,” she declared.

The press conference also touched on the role of contractors, particularly Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd, whose MD Krishna Reddy was named by Kavitha as part of the alleged collusion.

She questioned why the Anti-Corruption Bureau had not acted against those who allegedly benefited from the project. “Why are the masterminds untouched? Why is KCR being targeted instead?” she asked.

Kavitha’s statements mark a rare moment of public dissent within the BRS, a party known for its tight-knit leadership. Her decision to name family members and senior leaders signals a possible shift in internal dynamics.

Political analysts believe this could lead to a realignment within the party or even spark a wider investigation. The timing, just ahead of key elections, adds to the intensity of the situation.

As the story unfolds, the people of Telangana watch closely. The Kaleshwaram project, once a symbol of progress, now stands at the center of a storm involving power, money, and betrayal.

Kavitha concluded her address by reaffirming her loyalty to the ideals her father stood for. “I will not stay silent when truth is buried. This is about justice, not politics.”

Her words have opened a Pandora’s box within BRS. Whether it leads to accountability or deepens the divide remains to be seen.
