Jogi Ramesh Seeks CBI Probe in Liquor Case

Former minister and YSRCP leader Jogi Ramesh has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the ongoing fake liquor case. The move comes amid rising political tensions and allegations of bias in the current investigation.
On Sunday morning, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Jogi Ramesh from his residence in Ibrahimpatnam, NTR district. He was taken into custody along with his associate Arepalli Ramu and shifted to the Excise Department office in Vijayawada for questioning.
Jogi Ramesh has alleged that the current coalition government is attempting to frame him for political reasons. He claims the investigation by the state police is not impartial and has demanded that the case be handed over to a central agency for a fair probe.
The case took a serious turn when Addhepalli Janardhan Rao, the prime accused, reportedly stated that the fake liquor operation was encouraged by Jogi Ramesh. He alleged that Ramesh had promised ₹3 crore to support the setup of a distillery in Africa.
In his petition, Ramesh requested the High Court to transfer the investigation of two FIRs—registered at Mulakalacheruvu and Bhavanipuram police stations—to the CBI. He also urged the court to consider his own complaint filed on October 15, which he claims has been ignored by the local police.
Tensions escalated outside Ramesh’s residence during the arrest. Supporters of the former minister clashed with police, accusing them of acting under political pressure. The situation was brought under control after additional forces were deployed.
Ramesh emphasized that only a central agency could ensure transparency and justice in the case. He reiterated his commitment to cooperate with any fair investigation and expressed confidence that the truth would prevail.
The arrest has triggered sharp reactions across the political spectrum. YSRCP leaders have condemned the move, calling it a witch-hunt, while opposition parties have demanded a thorough probe into the fake liquor network.
The case has reignited public concern over the spread of counterfeit liquor in Andhra Pradesh. Citizens and activists have called for stricter enforcement and accountability to prevent such incidents in the future.
Jogi Ramesh is expected to be produced before a magistrate soon. The High Court is likely to hear his petition in the coming days, which could determine the future course of the investigation.
