Jadeja’s Historic Feat: First Indian to Score 500+ Runs at No.6 or Lower

Ravindra Jadeja’s Record-Breaking Test Series Against England
Ravindra Jadeja has etched his name into cricketing history by becoming the first Indian batter to score over 500 runs in a single Test series while batting at No.6 or lower. His tally of 516 runs across five matches in England is a testament to his consistency, grit, and match-winning temperament.
Jadeja’s performance came in a fiercely contested series that ended in a 2-2 draw. Despite batting in the lower middle order, he delivered one century and five half-centuries, with a highest score of 107* at Manchester. His average of 86 across 10 innings is the highest among Indian batters in the series.
This achievement breaks the previous Indian record held by VVS Laxman, who scored 474 runs at No.6 or lower against the West Indies in 2002. Jadeja also surpassed the legendary Garfield Sobers’ record for most 50+ scores in a series in England from No.6 or below, finishing with six such scores.
His contributions weren’t limited to batting. Jadeja also took seven wickets, reinforcing his status as one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket. His ability to anchor innings, build partnerships, and accelerate when needed made him a pillar of India’s batting lineup.
The series saw other standout performances too. Shubman Gill topped the charts with 754 runs, followed by KL Rahul with 532. But Jadeja’s impact was unique—he often rescued India from precarious positions and turned the tide with calm, calculated batting.
At Lord’s, his partnership with Mohammed Siraj nearly clinched an improbable win. At The Oval, his composed 53 helped India stretch their lead beyond 300, putting pressure on England in the final innings.
Jadeja’s feat places him among elite company globally. He joins the likes of Wasim Raja, Steve Waugh, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul as batters who’ve scored 500+ runs in a series from the lower middle order. His total of 1,158 Test runs in England—1,131 of which came at No.6 or lower—is unmatched by any visiting batter.
This milestone also highlights the evolution of India’s batting depth. Jadeja’s success at No.6 or lower reflects the team’s resilience and adaptability in challenging overseas conditions.
As India looks ahead to future tours, Jadeja’s performance sets a new benchmark for lower-order batting. His blend of technique, temperament, and tactical awareness makes him a vital asset in all formats.
