India Alerts Parliament on West Asia Crisis

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar addressed both Houses of Parliament today regarding the rapidly deteriorating situation in West Asia. He provided a comprehensive briefing on the escalating conflict and its potential impact on Indian interests. The Minister emphasized that the safety of the Indian diaspora remains the government’s highest priority during this period of regional instability.

The Minister confirmed that the Ministry of External Affairs is in constant contact with Indian embassies across the Gulf region. With nearly 10 million Indian citizens currently residing and working in these countries, the government has activated emergency helplines. Jaishankar assured families back home that contingency plans are in place for rapid evacuation if the security situation worsens further.

Beyond citizen safety, the briefing touched upon the serious implications for India’s energy security. As the conflict zone expands, global oil prices have seen a sharp increase, crossing the $114 per barrel mark. The Minister noted that the Cabinet Committee on Security is monitoring maritime trade routes to ensure that essential supply chains for crude oil and gas remain uninterrupted despite the regional tension.

During the session, Jaishankar also highlighted India’s diplomatic stance, calling for an immediate de-escalation of violence. He informed the members that India is engaging with key global leaders to advocate for a return to dialogue and diplomacy. The government is committed to a balanced approach that protects national economic interests while promoting regional peace and stability.

Opposition members raised questions regarding the specific logistics of “Operation Rescues” for those in high-risk zones. In response, the Minister stated that the Indian Air Force and naval assets are on standby. He concluded by requesting all political parties to present a united front on this sensitive matter of national security and international relations.
