Harish Rao Slams Government Over Water Rights

The political climate in Telangana has intensified today as senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The dispute centers on the management of the state’s irrigation projects and river water shares. Rao accused the current administration of failing to protect the interests of Telangana farmers, particularly regarding the Krishna river allocations.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao challenged the Chief Minister to a direct debate on the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. He alleged that the Congress government has weakened the state’s stance by settling for a lower water allocation than what was originally demanded. According to the BRS leader, the current leadership’s “silence” has allowed neighboring states to divert water meant for Telangana’s parched districts.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy responded to these allegations by announcing a special Assembly session starting December 29. He stated that the floor of the House is the appropriate place to expose what he termed as “irrigation scams” of the previous regime. The Chief Minister asserted that his government is working to correct historical injustices and will present a detailed report on the status of all major pending projects.

The war of words has now moved beyond policy into personal territory, with both leaders trading sharp remarks. While Harish Rao described the CM’s approach as “uninformed,” Revanth Reddy accused the BRS leadership of trying to sabotage the state’s progress for political survival. This confrontation comes at a time when the state is preparing for a series of local body elections, making irrigation a central campaign issue.

As the Assembly session approaches, the public is closely watching how both parties will defend their respective irrigation records. For farmers in the Krishna basin, the outcome of this political battle is critical, as it determines the future of their crops and livelihoods. The government’s next move in the Assembly is expected to set the tone for the state’s water policy for the coming year.
