Employee Unions Call Off Agitations Following Government Assurances
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held a crucial high-level meeting with major employee union leaders at the state secretariat in Amaravati. The primary goal of this discussion was to address long-pending demands raised by government workers, teachers, and retired personnel. Following positive assurances from the state administration, key employee bodies decided to defer their proposed statewide protests. Union leaders welcomed the government’s constructive approach toward resolving core workplace and financial grievances. During the discussions, the chief minister emphasized that the workforce forms an integral part of governance and administration. He assured attendees that the state administration would extend maximum possible support despite current financial hurdles.
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the official approval given for setting up the 12th Pay Revision Commission. To fast-track this process, the administration decided to appoint a dedicated Pay Revision Commission chairperson very soon. Furthermore, the government agreed to release two long-pending Dearness Allowances starting from the first of October. These released instalments cover the due periods from July 2024 and January 2025 respectively. In addition to the Dearness Allowances, the administration addressed the pending requests regarding employee surrender leaves. It was officially announced that surrender leave arrears corresponding to the year 2022 would be credited during the Sankranti festival. Police personnel received an additional benefit, with approval granted for one extra surrender leave payment ahead of the Dasara festival. Retired employees and senior citizens also received favorable news concerning their monthly pension structures.
The administration cleared the implementation of the Additional Quantum of Pension, which will roll out starting in January 2027. Under this particular scheme, pensioners aged above seventy years will receive a ten percent hike. Those individuals who have crossed seventy-five years of age will be entitled to a fifteen percent pension increase. Medical welfare systems received major attention to streamline health care benefits for workers and their families. The chief minister agreed to clear month-on-month payments directly to the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust starting next month. This financial streamlining ensures that medical health cards are accepted smoothly across empanelled hospitals without payment delays.
Altogether, these newly approved welfare measures will put an annual financial commitment of nearly two thousand eight hundred eighty crore rupees on the state exchequer. Leaders representing the Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee expressed satisfaction with these swift administrative actions. Representatives noted that regularizing payments and addressing health card bottlenecks will ease daily pressures for millions of families. Secretariat association leaders also highlighted positive talks regarding housing plots and service security for municipal staff. Despite the positive outcomes, certain district-level representatives voiced minor concerns regarding the absence of an immediate Interim Relief announcement. Union representatives formally requested the administration to formulate a clear roadmap for clearing all remaining financial arrears. They stressed that maintaining mutual trust between workers and administration remains essential for smooth public service delivery. The leadership confirmed they will monitor the implementation of these promises closely over the coming weeks. For now, the decision to pause agitations has brought immense relief to daily administrative functions across state departments. Citizens visiting government offices can expect normal operations to continue without disruptions caused by employee strikes.
