CM Revanth Reddy Announces Law to Deduct Salary for Neglecting Parents

In a bold move to ensure the welfare of senior citizens, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced a landmark decision to protect elderly parents. The state government plans to enact a new law that mandates a salary deduction for government employees who fail to care for their ageing parents.

Under this proposed legislation, if an employee is found neglecting their parents, approximately 10% to 15% of their monthly salary will be deducted at the source. This amount will be credited directly to the bank accounts of the parents, ensuring they have the financial means to support themselves with dignity.

The Chief Minister shared this vision during the launch of the ‘Pranam’ scheme, which focuses on creating a supportive environment for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. He emphasized that children have a moral and social duty to look after those who sacrificed their lives to raise them.

CM Revanth Reddy noted that many elderly citizens suffer in silence despite their children holding stable government positions. To address this, the government will treat complaints filed by parents with high priority. The legislative draft is expected to be introduced during the upcoming budget session for the 2026-27 financial year.

In addition to the salary deduction law, the state is establishing ‘Pranam’ day-care centers. these facilities will provide a safe space for the elderly to spend their day, offering companionship and basic medical care. The government aims to act as an extended family for those who find themselves isolated in their old age.

The announcement has sparked widespread discussion across the state. While many applaud the humanitarian approach, the government is also working on clear guidelines to prevent any potential misuse of the law. Officials stated that the deduction would only occur after a formal verification process.

This initiative is part of a broader welfare agenda that includes a new healthcare policy and better representation for marginalized groups in local governance. By linking financial accountability to family care, Telangana seeks to set a national example for social responsibility.

As the state moves toward legalizing these protections, the Chief Minister urged the younger generation to lead with compassion. He reminded newly recruited officers that professional success is incomplete without fulfilling one’s personal duties toward their family and society
