CM Chandrababu Naidu Pushes Purvodaya Funds for AP Growth

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi today, urging swift financial support under the Purvodaya scheme. The meeting marks a strategic push to unlock development across backward regions of the state, especially North Andhra and Rayalaseema.

The Purvodaya scheme, designed to uplift eastern states through targeted investments in agriculture, industry, and infrastructure, has already identified Andhra Pradesh as a key beneficiary. CM Naidu presented a detailed roadmap outlining how the funds would be utilized to transform the state’s economic landscape.

Among the proposals, the government aims to expand coffee plantations, cashew and coconut farms in North Andhra, boost horticulture in Rayalaseema, and strengthen aquaculture in Coastal Andhra. These initiatives are expected to generate employment, raise rural incomes, and reduce regional disparities.

Naidu emphasized that balanced growth is not just a policy goal but a moral imperative. “We must ensure that every region of Andhra Pradesh gets equal opportunity to thrive,” he said after the meeting.

The Chief Minister’s delegation included senior bureaucrats and planning officials who showcased investment-ready projects aligned with the Purvodaya framework. These include cold storage chains, agro-processing units, and logistics hubs tailored to local produce.

Rayalaseema, long considered drought-prone and underdeveloped, stands to benefit from horticulture clusters and water-efficient farming models. In North Andhra, the focus will be on coastal farming, marine exports, and plantation diversification.

The Finance Minister responded positively, assuring that the Centre would review the proposals and expedite funding based on viability and impact. She also invited Andhra Pradesh to present its plans at the upcoming CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam.

Naidu is expected to use the summit to attract private investors and global partners. The state government is preparing investment brochures and sector-specific pitches to showcase Andhra Pradesh’s readiness for industrial expansion.

This renewed push for Purvodaya funding comes at a time when Andhra Pradesh is recalibrating its growth strategy post-pandemic. With a focus on inclusive development, the state aims to become a model for sustainable regional planning.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in fund utilization. He directed officials to maintain real-time dashboards and public reporting mechanisms to track progress.

Local leaders from Rayalaseema and North Andhra welcomed the move, calling it a long-overdue step toward equitable development. Farmer unions and youth groups expressed hope that the scheme would bring lasting change to their communities.

As Andhra Pradesh waits for the Centre’s nod, the groundwork is being laid for a transformation that could redefine the state’s economic map. From plantations to ports, the vision is clear: growth that reaches every corner.
