BRS Announces Total Boycott of Assembly Session

The political atmosphere in Telangana turned tense on Friday as the main opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), declared a total boycott of the ongoing winter session. Led by senior leader T. Harish Rao, the party legislators walked out of the House, accusing the government and the Speaker of suppressing their voices on critical public issues.
The primary cause for this protest was a heated debate regarding the Musi River Rejuvenation Project. BRS members alleged that they were denied the opportunity to speak or raise supplementary questions after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s intervention. The opposition claimed that the Speaker acted with bias by frequently switching off their microphones during the Question Hour.
Further fueling the fire, BRS leaders expressed deep anger over the “unparliamentary” language allegedly used by the Chief Minister against their top leadership. Harish Rao stated that the Assembly was being run unilaterally, comparing the environment to a “ruling party office” rather than a democratic legislative body. The party has vowed to take their protest to the people through public rallies.
In response, the ruling Congress party dismissed the boycott as an attempt to escape discussions on previous administrative failures. While the government continues with its legislative agenda, including key bills on municipal reforms, the absence of the main opposition leaves a significant gap in the floor proceedings.
