BJP Chief Apologizes Over Vijay-Trisha Remark

Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran issued a formal apology today, following a massive public and political backlash. The controversy erupted after Nagendran made personal remarks involving actor-politician Vijay and actress Trisha Krishnan during a recent press interaction. The BJP leader described the comment as a “slip of the tongue” and expressed deep regret for his choice of words.

The issue began when Nagendran, while questioning the political experience of Vijay—the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)—suggested that the actor should “come out of Trisha’s house” to understand real politics. This statement was widely condemned as distasteful and sexist by various political parties, including the DMK and Congress. Social media platforms were also flooded with criticism from fans and women’s rights groups.

Earlier today, actress Trisha Krishnan broke her silence by issuing a strong legal statement. She clarified her total political neutrality and emphasized that personal lives should never be the subject of public discourse. Trisha’s post on social media, captioned “Disrespect must be called out,” quickly went viral, prompting immediate action from the BJP leadership to contain the damage ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Following internal discussions with senior party leaders, including Vanathi Srinivasan and K. Annamalai, Nagendran held a press conference in Tirunelveli to clear the air. He stated that in his long political career, he has never resorted to personal attacks and that this specific remark was unintentional. He extended his “heartfelt apologies” to anyone whose sentiments were hurt by the incident.

This apology comes at a critical time as political campaigning intensifies in Tamil Nadu. With the state heading toward a major electoral battle, parties are increasingly cautious about public optics. While the apology seeks to bury the controversy, political rivals continue to use the incident to question the BJP’s stance on dignity in public life and respect for women in the professional sphere.
