YSRCP Slams Housing “Credit Theft”

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has launched a sharp attack against the current coalition government, accusing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of claiming false credit for housing projects. Speaking at a press conference in Tadepalli on Monday, March 30, 2026, former Minister Merugu Nagarjuna alleged that the administration is merely “repainting” units built during the previous tenure.

The controversy erupted following the government’s massive “Gruhapravesam” (housewarming) event in Sullurpeta, where over 2.5 lakh houses were distributed. Nagarjuna claimed that these TIDCO houses and Jagananna Colony units were nearly 90% complete before the 2024 leadership change. He stated that the current government has not initiated a single new housing project or acquired land for the poor since taking office.

Further intensifying the “credit war,” the YSRCP leader argued that the previous government spent over ₹32,000 crore on infrastructure like electricity, water, and drainage for these colonies. He criticized the TDP-led alliance for rebranding these established “townships” as their own achievements, calling it a “blatant appropriation” of the hard work done under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership.

In response, the ruling coalition maintained that they are fulfilling the dreams of the homeless by completing stalled projects and ensuring transparency. However, the YSRCP remains steadfast, demanding the government release a white paper on how many new houses were actually sanctioned and started after 2024. This housing row has now become a central flashpoint in the state’s shifting political narrative.
