Telangana CM Seeks More IPS Officers in Delhi

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss critical administrative and security needs. During the meeting, the Chief Minister formally requested an increase in the state’s sanctioned IPS officer strength from 83 to 105. He emphasized that the current numbers are insufficient to manage the rapid urban expansion of Hyderabad and the evolving security landscape.

The Chief Minister highlighted that while a cadre review was due in 2021, it was significantly delayed until 2025, resulting in only seven additional officers. He urged the Union Government to conduct the next scheduled review in 2026 without further delays. This increase is essential for staffing the reorganization of police commissionerates in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri, as well as the newly proposed “Future City” commissionerate.

In addition to administrative growth, the discussion covered modern security threats such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, and white-collar crimes. CM Revanth Reddy explained that these challenges require specialized senior leadership. He also briefed the Home Minister on the state’s success in managing Left-Wing Extremism, noting that 591 Maoists have surrendered and joined the mainstream over the past two years.

The meeting also touched upon financial support for development projects in the backward regions of Telangana. The Home Minister reportedly appreciated the state’s efforts in rehabilitating surrendered Maoists and encouraged continued cooperation in ongoing security operations. Accompanying the CM were the State DGP and other senior intelligence officials, underscoring the high-level nature of the delegation’s request.
