PM Modi Targets Congress in Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp critique of the Congress party during his address to the Rajya Sabha . Responding to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, the Prime Minister asserted that the previous administration lacked a clear vision, which stalled the nation’s growth for decades. He stated that his government has spent significant energy rectifying the historical mistakes of the past while pushing the country toward becoming a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
The Prime Minister specifically addressed the Congress leadership, claiming that they have a deep-seated habit of insulting constitutional authorities and marginalized communities. He pointed to recent incidents where papers were allegedly thrown at a Dalit parliamentarian and an MP from Assam, calling it an insult to the entire Northeast and the Dalit community. Modi also criticized the “traitor” label used by the opposition against certain leaders, suggesting it was an attack on specific identities rather than just a political disagreement.
Economic achievements and global standing were central to the Prime Minister’s speech. He highlighted recent “future-ready” trade agreements with nine major nations, including a significant deal with the European Union and the United States. According to the PM, these deals demonstrate that the world now views India as a stable and trusted partner. He contrasted this with the “fragile five” status India held in the past, noting that the country is now on track to become the world’s third-largest economy.
The session was marked by heavy disruption as the Opposition, led by the Congress, staged a walkout after continuous sloganeering. PM Modi took a swipe at Mallikarjun Kharge, suggesting he sit down and raise slogans due to his age, which further fueled the political fire. Despite the walkout, the Prime Minister continued his nearly 100-minute address, touching upon reforms in the banking sector and the successful reduction of non-performing assets to below one percent.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister dismissed the opposition’s personal attacks and slogans, stating that the blessings of the people act as his protective shield. He reiterated that while the opposition might dream of “digging his grave,” he is focused on building the country’s infrastructure and empowering the youth. The Motion of Thanks was subsequently passed by a voice vote, concluding a day of intense political drama in the upper house of Parliament.
